Safety tips for Halloween

Because of the flu and particularly the H1N1 flu, you might want to:
  1. Keep a sick child home to prevent transmission of the virus to your community.
  2. Remind kids not to wipe their eyes, nose, and mouth with their hand (fat chance but you should try anyway)
  3. Bring hand sanitizer with you.
  4. Hand out candy or scoop out candy or put candy in individual treat bags instead of having the kids put their hands in the bowl of candy.
  5. Throw away unwrapped candy and inspect the rest for choking hazards or any tampering.

For a safer Halloween:

  1. Plan your route with your child so they know where they are going and keep a copy of route with another adult while you escort the kids trick-or-treating.
  2. Give trick-or-treaters a flashlight.
  3. Keep your outdoor lights on for the trick-or-treaters.
  4. Sweep away your leaves from your sidewalk or steps and keep it clear of any obstacles.
  5. Use a glowstick in your Jack-o-Lantern instead of a candle.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
